I-LDCC provides all meals and snacks your child will need throughout the day at no cost to families. This includes breakfast, lunch, and snacks. Water is available at all times. We follow USDA's Child Care Food Program's nutrition guidelines, and menus are posted weekly at the center.
I-LDCC is NOT a peanut-free school, and parents are permitted to bring in a treat at holiday times and/or for their child's birthday. We do encourage alternatives to the traditional birthday cake because we celebrate a lot of birthdays throughout the year!
Meals are served family-style. Children serve themselves, clean up when there are spills, and are responsible for clearing their own dishes when they are finished. Family-style meals encourage healthy eating habits as children learn how much food to put on their plate, and to sense their own fullness. It is also great practice for fine-motor skills and reinforcing manners. Mealtimes become an enjoyable and relaxing time for children and teachers to share conversation.
Whenever possible I-LDCC utilizes local and organic ingredients, including vegetables from our summer garden. I-LDCC always strives to go above and beyond USDA guidelines, and as such does not serve processed meat products such as hotdogs and bologna, or foods with artificial colors or food dyes.
